Makharij (مخارج) is an Arabic term that refers to the "points of articulation" or "places of articulation" of consonants in the Arabic language. In phonetics, makharij are the locations in the mouth and throat where consonant sounds are produced.
In Arabic, there are 17 makharij, which are divided into three categories:
